Raised in the diverse culture of Los Angeles, Wm Saint James was born to create. Classically trained in illustration, figure drawing and various other disciplines, he shifted to paint and abstraction in his early 20’s. As he entrenched himself in art history, from the old masters to the modern minimalists, his knowledge of style and color has aided him in his evolution, beginning with stencil sprays and eventually moving into abstract expressionist and geometric abstraction. A blending of Twombly, Kusama and touches of Aboriginal dot painting come through in the raw, gestural quality of his style. Texture and layers of color add depth for the viewer to visually dive into his paintings, entering the stream of consciousness that embodies his work. Each piece captures a specific moment of his emotion and spirit. William recently planted roots in Hill Country, Texas where he has quickly gained traction in the art community. The divine inspiration for his new work is channeled through his studio in Dripping Springs.
